John R. Park Debate Society Wins "Beacon of Excellence" Award

The College of Humanities was delighted to find out that in addition to Taunya Dressler, the John R. Park Debate Society program was also a Beacon of Excellence award recipient.

This well-deserved recognition is bestowed on the John R. Parks Debate Society due to the nominations received on its behalf from the campus community. The Debate Society has brought prestige to the University of Utah through accomplishments and award winning performance at state, national and international competitions. During the Fall of 2011, a committee of campus members developed a recognition program called Transforming U: Beacons of Excellence, as part of the mission to reimagine the undergraduate experience. 

The goal of the Beacons of Excellence Award is to recognize some of the practices on campus that make the educational experience a transformative one for students.  The University of Utah fosters a transformational experience for all students. We value and recognize a respect for knowledge that empowers students to become actively engaged members of various communities. We accomplish this through recognizing people, programs and projects committed to excellence. This award highlights the achievements of a select group of the many people, programs, and projects that contribute to our excellence at the U.
