College of Humanities Sees Strong Growth in Internships for Credit
The College of Humanities experienced a standout Spring semester, with 159 students earning academic credit for internships, the highest total in any semester since 2016 and a 24% increase from last Spring.
This growth reflects expanded support and opportunities for students. Initiatives
like the Step Up Fund, which helps offset the cost of unpaid internships, and the Global Accelerator Program, which connects students to remote project-based work with global companies such
as Lorelle and Spotify, have played a key role in increasing access to experiential
learning.
Notably, 44% of students earning internship credit secured paid positions, highlighting
strong alignment between academic preparation and workforce readiness.
The college also increased visibility of student success through a record number of internship spotlights, showcasing student achievements across news features, announcements, and social media.
Looking ahead, several programs continue to expand and create new pathways into internships. The Sports Media Internship Program has grown to a cohort of more than 25 students. The Goff Institute’s Explorers Program remains a strong entry point for first- and second-year students seeking their first internship experience, while the Trailblazers Program connects students to community-based projects through coursework.
Fall 2026 will also be the launch of a new Liberal Arts and Sciences Practicum Program, an initiative designed to connect students with professional organizations for hands-on, project-based work. Open to students across the Colleges of Humanities, Social and Behavioral Science, and Science, the program aims to further expand access to meaningful, resume-building experiences.
As these programs continue to grow, the College of Humanities is strengthening its commitment to ensuring that every student has the opportunity to gain practical experience and take confident steps toward their future careers.
