Humanities students gain valuable, career-ready skills through their coursework and co-curricular programs. Internships offer an essential opportunity to apply these skills in real-world settings, explore potential career paths, and gain professional experience. For many students, completing an internship is a key step in successfully transitioning from college to the workplace.

Internship:  Formula Drift

Role: Intern

This past August and October I had the opportunity to intern and shadow for a company that means a lot to me. Formula Drift is a racing series that features 1,000+ horsepower cars going over 100mph sideways.

I was given the responsibility to handle sponsor obligations and media resources. This meant that before the event I oversaw marking out vendor and sponsor booths and even helping some set up. This was usually a 2-day process and involved painting/ marking vendor spots, hanging sponsor banners according to sponsor contracts, setting up the podium and small structure with promotional material, helping select sponsors set up their booths, and helping track staff place more promotional material.

During the 3 days of driving, I was given the task of taking photos and videos that highlight the sponsors' banners and signage. I made sure that photos highlighted the event and showcased the action while also showing how the sponsors' banners are in view for the audience. I also took pictures of some sponsor materials and vendors to be used in future marketing pitches and sponsor meetings.

Internship: Jinsung IND

Role: Marketing Intern

I am currently working as a Marketing Intern at Jinsung IND, a company specializing in construction and facility engineering. I was drawn to this opportunity because I wanted to learn how marketing operates in a technical and industrial setting, where communication and credibility are just as important as creativity. In my role, I assist with preparing proposal materials for construction projects, conduct market research, and help design bilingual content that highlights Jinsung IND’s engineering expertise and sustainability efforts.

One of my main projects has been updating the company’s promotional materials and presentation templates for upcoming infrastructure bids. Collaborating with engineers and project managers has taught me how to present complex technical information in a clear and visually engaging way. I’ve learned that marketing in the construction industry requires a strong balance between precision, teamwork, and strategic storytelling.

Through this ongoing experience, I am developing communication and problem-solving skills while gaining a deeper understanding of B2B marketing in the technical field. My internship at Jinsung IND continues to inspire me to pursue a career that bridges engineering innovation and creative communication.

Internship:  Cutco Cutlery

Role: Sales Representative

Working with Cutco Cutlery has been such a great experience during college. Since I started, I’ve hit and even passed my sales goals, which feels super rewarding. I’ve learned how to set small goals for myself, stay organized, and really put in the effort to build strong relationships with customers. My sales success rate has been high because I genuinely believe in the product and enjoy talking to people about it. It’s rewarding to see my hard work pay off, and it’s given me a lot of confidence in my ability to communicate and sell effectively.

One of the best parts about Cutco is how flexible it is. Between classes, lacrosse, and everything else on my schedule, I can still make it work because the internship is online. I just use my phone and computer to set up meetings and do sales presentations, which makes it super convenient. It’s a job that fits perfectly around my life as a student-athlete, and I never have to worry about missing class or practice.

Cutco has definitely helped me grow a lot, too. It’s improved my time management and people skills, and I’ve learned how to balance multiple responsibilities at once. I feel like I’m building my resume and real-world experience before I even graduate this spring. Overall, it’s been a great opportunity to make money, learn professional skills, and get a head start on my career, all while keeping up with school and sports.

Internship: Center for Business, Health, and Prosperity

Role: Intern

When I started this internship with the Center for Business, Health, and Prosperity, they were expanding the team very quickly. This meant one of my first challenges/achievements was getting to know the whole team of about 20 interns and building relationships with all of them. It has been one of the most consistently rewarding parts of my time there as we all are friends and enjoy collaborating in our work. This also came with the networking challenge of making sure that everyone was aware of who was in what role and doing what work. In a way, I was assisting in communicating the distribution of responsibility and helping wherever I could.

Throughout my internship, I wore a lot of hats and worked with every team in the center. Whether I was recruiting for our global programs, planning and running a Prosperity U event, or sitting in on endcap leadership meetings, I made sure to put forward my best work. Even when miscellaneous tasks came my way like assembling a poster, desk topper, or rearranging furniture, I was always happy to help. My favorite thing about this work was the connections I made with people to better help make the university environment a better place.

Students standing with SwoopLooking forward, I hope to revitalize some aspects of the social media presence CBHP has, as well as improve internal communications between teams. Now that I better understand the individual functions of the center’s initiatives, I believe I can better their collaboration. Between assigning leadership roles among the interns, to spearheading new outreach initiatives, I hope to combine the efforts of everyone in the center towards a more engaging internship experience. Increasing efficiency of interns in the center alongside starting new projects allows us to grow at the pace envisioned by our executive team. I am excited to continue to work with the Center for Business, Health, and Prosperity.
