Humanities students gain valuable, career-ready skills through their coursework and co-curricular programs. Internships offer an essential opportunity to apply these skills in real-world settings, explore potential career paths, and gain professional experience. For many students, completing an internship is a key step in successfully transitioning from college to the workplace.

Internship:  InnovestX

As a marketing intern on the content management team at InnovestX, I took on a mix of creative and analytical tasks. I helped manage content across social media platforms, including Facebook, X, and Instagram, by tracking daily engagement and monitoring competitor activity. One of my main responsibilities was maintaining the monthly KPI dashboard, where I reported on performance metrics and created visual summaries to make the data easy to understand. Although I had never built KPI dashboards before, I discovered that I enjoyed working with numbers and Excel—especially when I could turn the data into visuals that were clear and useful for the team.

On the content creation side, I worked on real-time market updates, informational posts, and infographic designs. I also created mockups and drafted content ideas to help visualize different posts. I enjoyed both the creativity of content development and the organization involved in managing daily administrative tasks for social media. This internship helped me strengthen my skills in communication, design, and data reporting while teaching me how to support both the creative and strategic sides of content marketing. It was a valuable hands-on experience, and I look forward to applying these skills in my future career.

To maintain a healthy balance between my internship, school, and personal life, I stayed organized by planning out my week in advance and setting clear goals for each day. I also communicated openly with my team about my schedule and deadlines. Taking short breaks helped me reset and avoid burnout. I learned that it’s all about finding a rhythm that works and being kind to yourself in the process.

Internship: Aero Connect LLC

This summer, I had the opportunity to intern at Aero Connect LLC, where I took on a variety of meaningful responsibilities that helped the company grow. I began with data entry, spending the first month filtering through hundreds of airlines in Aero Connect’s database to determine which ones used aircraft compatible with the company’s engine stands. This was a time-consuming but valuable task that required close attention to detail and gave me a better understanding of how the aviation leasing business works. After that, I shifted into a more creative role, traveling to different locations where our engine stands were stored to take and edit photos for the company website. This was one of my favorite parts of the internship because it allowed me to use my creative side and apply the skills I had been learning in my Lightroom class to a real-world project. I enjoyed seeing how my contributions improved the visual appeal of the company’s online presence.

Although this internship may not have directly related to my long-term goal of becoming a firefighter, it provided me with transferable skills and a deeper appreciation for project ownership and time management. As a strategic communication major, I found strong connections to my studies through tasks involving branding, digital content creation, and professional communication. The creative projects, in particular, aligned closely with what I had learned in class and gave me the chance to build a portfolio of real work.

This internship showed me that flexibility and a willingness to learn can open unexpected doors. If another student asked for advice, I would encourage them to be open to internships outside their exact career path—you never know what new skills or interests you might discover. Managing school, life, and an internship was definitely possible with strong time management and clear boundaries. Overall, I had a great experience at Aero Connect

Internship:  RC Willey

Interning with RC Willey’s advertising department has been a great experience—even more enjoyable than I expected. As a Strategic Communication student, getting to observe how a real company runs its marketing and creative sides has been eye-opening. I’ve helped create social media content, assisted with store promotions, and sat in on brainstorming sessions where campaign details were finalized.

My favorite experience was helping with a campaign to furnish a Jazz player’s apartment. It was fascinating to see how much writing and planning goes into something like that. I’ve learned how much behind-the-scenes work is involved in every detail.

I already enjoyed writing and designing before this internship, but this experience has shown me how those skills can be executed professionally. There’s still so much to learn, but this has given me a real introduction to working on a team, staying structured, and watching ideas materialize.

If you’re considering an internship, go for it—even if you’re nervous. You’ll learn as you go, and it’s absolutely worth it!
