Mike Freemole Honored with 2025 Staff Excellence Award

Each year, the college honors a staff member for their hard work and dedication to the humanities. This year, the committee has recognized Mike Freemole, Telecommunication Area Supervisor in the Department of Communication, for the Staff Excellence Award.
Freemole often serves as the first point of contact for faculty, staff, and students when they encounter technical problems in classrooms, and this work positions him at the frontline of problem-solving as well as providing visionary technological solutions for Communication and the College more broadly.
Avery Holton, chair of the Department of Communication, commends Freemole’s work as an advocate for students and a vital part of the College of Humanities. Says Holton, “Mike’s contributions are rooted in his dedication to his work, his deep understanding of industry trends, and his unwavering commitment to the students he serves. His ability to bridge gaps across campus, connect with leadership, and advocate for the College’s mission has made him an invaluable asset to our community.”
In his nomination letter, Holton shares an anecdote that exemplifies Freemole’s impact: “Mike has been instrumental in coordinating one of the most significant and cutting-edge updates for the Department of Communication and the College of Humanities. His behind-the-scenes work will ensure faculty, staff, and students have access to some of the best broadcasting and production equipment available while also having strengthened relationships with campus and community media partners through new internships and opportunities for students.”
Nominators praised Freemole for his consistent excellence across many job roles, adaptability in frequently changing technology and university landscapes, ability to bridge gaps across campus and connect with leadership, and always prioritizing student education and experience in decision making. The College is fortunate to count Mike Freemole among our number.
Please join us in congratulating our colleague on this award!
