Two Humanities Students Earn Internship of the Year


 

Two students from the College of Humanities have been selected as Internship of the Year winners as part of the U Career Success Career Impact Awards, an exciting recognition of student achievement and impact. Out of more than 140 nominations submitted across campus, only five students received this honor.

The awards will be celebrated at the Career Impact Awards x Fashion Show on April 16 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Impact & Prosperity Epicenter

Headshot of JesseJesse Johnson, a Communication major, was recognized for his work as a Networking Intern with the Office of Alumni Relations. In his role, Johnson developed skills in communication, project management, and networking while contributing creative content for alumni engagement. Reflecting on his experience, Johnson shared, “I had opportunities to pitch my own ideas for the UAlumni Instagram page and execute them independently,” highlighting both his initiative and creative contributions. He also emphasized how the experience helped him see “how networking plays into marketing” and how teams collaborate to support shared goals.

Headshot of NicoleNicole Salem, a student majoring in World Languages & Cultures (Arabic emphasis) and Middle East Studies, earned the award for her work as an Expeditions Intern with CHOICE Humanitarian. Motivated by an interest in humanitarian work, Salem used her internship to explore global development as a potential career path. “I was drawn to this internship because I wanted to explore humanitarian-based opportunities,” she shared, gaining valuable experience in an international and service-oriented context.

These recognitions highlight the ways Humanities students are applying their skills across industries, from campus leadership and communications to global humanitarian efforts. Their work demonstrates the real-world impact of a Humanities education, and the meaningful contributions students are making both locally and globally. 

The College of Humanities congratulates Jesse Johnson and Nicole Salem on this well-deserved honor.
