John R. Park Debate Society Takes Top Honors in Stockton
On November 1-3, the John R. Park Debate Society continued its Fall season by attending three tournaments held in Stockton and San Rafael, California. The first tournament (part of a pair of events hosted in Stockton by the University of the Pacific and San Joaquin Delta College) saw the team advance 100%, or 15 of 15, events to final rounds and won the U top overall honors at the tournament. On November 2ndand 3rd, part of the team continued their competition at the second tournament in Stockton, while another group of students travelled to San Rafael, CA to participate in a British parliamentary debate tournament at Dominican University. At the former, the team sustained its earlier success with 3 additional final round appearances and a top overall school award (swing sweepstakes) across the two tournaments. And, in San Rafael, Utah debaters prevailed over students from UC-Berkeley, University of Miami (FL), University of Alaska, and the University of Mississippi, finishing in the semifinal round of the tournament. The team will conclude its Fall season in Thousand Oaks, CA at the Pacific Southwest Collegiate Forensics Association Fall Championships on Dec. 5-9, 2019.
