Writing 4010: Writing Across Borders
Course bridges UAC and SLC campus
Writing 4010 Students Meeting via Zoom
Due to the global COVID-19 pandemic, many courses at the University of Utah have transitioned to an online format, which creates unique challenges for both students and faculty. For one course, Writing 4010: Writing Across Borders, the instructors are using this transition as an opportunity to bring students from the Utah Asia Campus and the Salt Lake City campus together to literally practice writing across borders.
Meeting together each week via Zoom at time that’s convenient for all students (which is difficult considering the 15-hour time difference), the students are able to directly collaborate with their classmates from across the globe. Representing 14 different majors, students engage in cross-cultural communication, group study and collaborative projects. UAC-enrolled students who participate have the rare opportunity to build international friendships and prepare in yet another way to spend their final year on the SLC campus.
Writing 4010 prepares students to write for culturally and linguistically diverse
audiences for various purposes and emphasizes linguistic and rhetorical considerations
in print and electronic texts. It also focuses on critical appreciation of English
as an international language. For more information about writing courses visit writing.utah.edu.
