Dean Hollis Robbins
Welcome all, to a new academic year with the College of Humanities! This fall semester will be full of exciting courses, cutting-edge academic programming, and new forms of engagement with the world as the College continues to grow and evolve.
Our priorities as a College are supporting world class research, delivering excellence in the classroom, and ensuring all of our students succeed in whatever field they choose to pursue, whether history, philosophy, diplomacy, linguistics, world languages and cultures, writing and rhetoric, communication, English, international and area studies, environmental humanities, or any combination of the above.
A brief preview of some of the things that lie ahead for us all:
We have several new initiatives rolling out, including certificates in conflict resolution and environmental humanities and new BS options in history and linguistics. We are also looking forward to rolling out a new diplomacy major in the spring.
Our faculty scholars are presenting and publishing new work in their disciplines. From experts in artificial intelligence to historians to environmental humanities, from world languages to computational linguistics, you can see more about the research taking place on the new re-designed website featuring faculty’s most recent work. Highlights and customized research profiles are ready to help students connect with our world-class scholars studying in similar interest areas.
The Humanities Student Success Hub in the Carolyn Irish Tanner Humanities Building (CITHB Room 103) is ready to help students with academic advising, career coaching, student conference or research travel awards, and more! I trust that all of our students will take advantage of the many resources available within our college and on campus to help you balance your academic work with all the other aspects of your life and your mental health.
Our eight academic centers are thriving as national beacons of scholarly excellence, boasting a deep bench of faculty talent in both the teaching and research arenas, as well as reaching out to the community to bring the humanities off campus and into the rest of the state.
I am looking forward to this academic year, and to working alongside our community of undergraduate and graduate students, faculty, post-docs, and staff.
Welcome!
