The Department of Communication hosted the annual Doctoral Honors Seminar in partnership
with the National Communication Association.
In early June, the Department of Communication hosted the annual Doctoral Honors Seminar
in partnership with the National Communication Association (NCA). The event brought
almost 30 doctoral students and 9 faculty mentors to campus for an intensive three-day
seminar. Each doctoral student received scholarly feedback directly from nationally-recognized
experts in communication and attended professional development sessions. The department’s
planning committee included Drs. Rachel Alicia Griffin, Leandra Hernández, Andy King,
Kent Ono, and Melissa Parks. Additional department faculty—Drs. Logan Gomez, Chris
Ingraham, and Robin E. Jensen—served as panelists. Dr. King, the planning committee
chair notes, “This event provided an opportunity to share some of the excellent work
our department is doing with doctoral students and faculty from across the country.
We were honored to host the event and facilitate a seminar that provided space for
intellectual development and academic community building.” The Department of Communication
last hosted this event in 2010 and was thrilled to be selected again as one of the
top communication programs in the country.
