Congratulations!

The UU Latin American Studies Program received a prestigious Department of Education Undergraduate International Studies and Foreign Language (USIFL) grant. The purpose of the two-year grant totaling around $150,000 is to strengthen Portuguese and Spanish language instruction and enhance Latin American Studies content in courses across the disciplines. It is a highly competitive grant: Out of 107 applications, only 17 grants were awarded and only two of those were entirely devoted to Latin American Studies. This grant will fund the creation of new courses, including Portuguese for Spanish Speakers, Business Portuguese, Medical Spanish, Latin American Studies for the Professions, and Rainforest Ecology and Conservation. It will also support the enhancement of Brazilian Studies content in courses across the curriculum. The UISFL grant represents an important step in the ongoing expansion of Latin American Studies!
