Fall 2025 College of Humanities Stellar Staff Awards - College of Humanities

Four College of Humanities staff members were recognized with Stellar Staff Awards this winter: Kacey Campbell, Stephanie Gomez, Allie Hernandez, and Sumiko Martinez. Nominees are chosen by the college’s Staff Council twice each year.

Sumiko Martinez

Kacey Campbell, Graduate Student Coordinator and course scheduler in the Department of Linguistics. Her nominator says, "We are very lucky to have one person who oversees these two areas at once. She deftly handles each on its own, and more importantly, she sees how one relates to the other, and the department is immeasurably better for it...This is an overwhelming project, even in a small department like ours, but Kacey never loses sight of any of the relevant considerations, which are too numerous to list here. In her role as Graduate Student Coordinator, she has a hand in everything related to our graduate students from before they apply (she coordinates online information sessions for potential applicants) to graduation. Our students are aware of some this (she helps them register for classes, e.g.), but the vast majority happens behind the scenes, from making sure TA and instructor opportunities are equitably distributed to keeping up with the tuition benefit program (TBP), and even most faculty members are unaware of how much she does and how well she does it."

Stephanie Gomez, Web Designer in the Dean's Office. According to her nominator, "Stephanie has been instrumental in all departments’ web updates. She is always willing to lend a hand and goes above and beyond in providing training. Her support has helped me become more confident as a professional and develop a new skillset. Despite heavy College workloads, she is always responsive and helps with requests in a timely manner. I am continually impressed by her knowledge, dedication, and patience."

Allie Hernandez, Office Assistant in the Dean's Office. "Allie Hernandez, is such a bright spot in my day. Her warm smile and sparkling eyes greet everyone at the front desk of the Dean’s Office. She knows everyone’s name and always make you feel good that you showed up...she is an efficient and timely communicator. Her professionalism is beyond her years. I can always rely on her to help me, with enthusiasm and competence," writes her nominator.

Sumiko Martinez, Associate Director of Editorial and Media Strategy in the Dean's Office. Her nominators write, "Sumiko has been a fantastic mentor and has significantly helped improve the public perception of our department and faculty. The energy she brings into meetings is unmatched and she always makes everyone feel welcome and ready to collaborate," and "Sumiko consistently steps in to support marketing efforts, even when it’s outside of her formal role. She is caring, thoughtful, and exceptionally talented in her writing. Sumiko is a true shining star – someone everyone loves working with and turns to for guidance and support. Despite a packed schedule in the recent weeks, she always makes time to connect. We are fortunate to have her on our team!"
