HUMANITIES SCHOLAR SPOTLIGHT | Katie Turner
Katie Turner
Q. Tell us a bit about yourself!
A. My name is Katie Turner and I am going to be a junior this year at the U!
Q. This summer you have been working in an internship, can you tell us about it?
A. This summer I have been a communications intern at the Utah School for the Deaf and Blind. Since I am pursuing ASL (American Sign Language) interpreting and a communications degree, this internship has been perfect for me!
Q. How did you find this internship?
A. I found this internship on Handshake back in the spring and have been working with them ever since.
Q. What have you learned so far at your internship?
A. Throughout this internship I have gotten to learn about and create accessible media, which has been super interesting. Working with deaf and blind students and teachers has been a really cool experience that has taught me so much.
Q. Why do you think students should participate in internships?
A. I think internships provide a different experience that you can't get inside the classroom, it pushes you out of your comfort zone and helps you learn more about what you want to pursue post grad. I have loved my internship this summer and would recommend that everyone try one in college!
