HUMANITIES STUDENT SPOTLIGHT | Tara Thompson
Tara Thompson
Major: Communication (Strategic Communication Emphasis)
Q. Introduce yourself!
A. My name is Tara, I’m a Strategic Communication major and I’m a Senior
Q. How did you find your internship at Insight?
A. I found my internship on LinkedIn!
Q. What have you learned at your internship that will help you in your job search after graduation or in your first job after graduation?
A. I’ve learned how to use a lot of common software like Outlook, Excel, Webex, Adobe Acrobat etc. that I hadn’t used before. I also learned a lot about remote work and professional environments.
Q. Why do you think it’s important to complete an internship while in college?
A. It opens up a lot of doors by starting you off with experience as well as a degree which will set you apart when applying for jobs (if your internship didn’t end in a job offer). Not just this, but the U offers academic credit for internships which can help you graduate faster; for example I’ve earned 15 credits from doing internships which has allowed me to graduate a year early!
Q. What advice would you give your peers about internships?
A. You don’t have to take the first one that is offered to you! Find one that works for you, that you see a potential future in, and one that PAYS.
Q. Anything else you want to add 😊?
A. Internships are about gaining work experience and networking, you need those things just as much as a degree to succeed in the professional world!
