UROP Awardees

Summer 2025 Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program (UROP) Awardees worked with faculty mentors during the summer semester to complete research projects that they proposed.  The Office of Undergraduate Research sponsors this program, and students can apply for funding for their project through UROP during any semester.

Katherine Berensen, a senior double majoring in Philosophy of Science and Biology, has been working with faculty mentor Matt Haber (Philosophy) on a project titled The Species Problem Problem and the No Solution Solution.  She also received a UROP award for the same research in Spring 2025.

Summer Program for Undergraduate Research

Each summer, students from all over the United States come to the University of Utah as part of the Summer Program for Undergraduate Research (SPUR).

Natalia on the beachNatalia Lopez, a junior pursuing a Bachelor of University Studies Degree in Humanities and Chicano studies, worked with faculty mentor Ed Muñoz (Ethnic Studies) this summer on a project titled Latinx Criminal Justice Professional: Exploring Career Motivations. This is the second summer that Natalia has been selected to participate in the SPUR program. Learn more about Natalia and her research! 


Undergraduate Research Symposium

The College of Humanities was represented by two students at the Summer Undergraduate Research Symposium, where students showcase research they have been working on as undergraduates. This symposium is a great opportunity to share research with the larger academic community.

Natalia Lopez presented her research from SPUR titled Latinx Criminal Justice Professional: Exploring Career Motivations. Ed Muñoz (Ethnic Studies) served as the faculty mentor on this project.

Lucy Christensen, an International Studies student, presented research from a qualitative field study she conducted as a global health researcher through a learning abroad program in Himachal Pradesh, India.  Lucy was guided by faculty mentor Tenjinder Signh and her project was titled Barriers to Eye Care in the Indian Himalayas.  Lucy is beginning a Master of Legal Studies Program this fall.


Range Journal

The Office of Undergraduate Research publishes Range: Undergraduate Research Journal twice per year. These are the humanities students and faculty mentors who are represented in the first issue of the journal in 2025.
