Transfer Student Spotlight | Shae Johnson
Q: How did you decide to attend the University of Utah?
A: There are so many unique classes that are offered that interest me. After studying abroad in Korea, I discovered the University of Utah has an Asia Campus in South Korea, which drew me to the Salt Lake campus.
Q: What advice would you share with other students thinking of transferring?
A: It may be scary and overwhelming figuring out a new campus, but take it one day at a time. I like to walk around and explore new parts of campus to familiarize myself with places where I don't even have classes. Don't be afraid to explore!
Q: What excites you about your major?
A: Where it will take me in the future! There is always more to learn, and I think the journey will never end.
Q: What was surprising about campus life or classes here at the U?
A: I recently visited the library and discovered how crowded it was. There are so many students on campus which is different from my past experiences. I love the lively environment though!
Q: Are there any specific transfer-friendly spaces, programs, or events you would recommend?
A: I haven't been to any events or anything but my advisor has been great help with getting all my transfer credits and understanding my future plans!
Q: How can faculty and staff better support transfer students?
A: I think the faculty and staff are already doing great in supporting transfer students! Although I think some people may benefit from check-ups to make sure they are adjusting well to the transfer.
Q: How has your transfer experience shaped your future goals?
A: I feel as though now I have more opportunities and options. Before transferring, I had no idea what I wanted to do in the future, but now I have so many ideas and opportunities to choose from.
Q: What are you most looking forward to in your remaining time at the U?
A: The U has so many great resources and opportunities and I can't wait to see what I can do in my time remaining! I am looking at studying abroad or doing a global internship and I have been given such great help!
