HUMANITIES Internship SPOTLIGHT | Jack H. George

Jack H. George
Major: Communication - Strategic Communication Emphasis
Internship: Western River Expeditions
As a communication major interested in adventure, action sports, and sustainable outdoor recreation, Jack found a perfect match interning at Western River Expeditions. Drawn to the adventure tourism industry, he has embraced the opportunity to engage in marketing and public relations work that aligns closely with his interests. "This internship has worked very closely with the values that I have and the passions that I follow," he shared.
Jack credits his courses, Mass Communication Law and Public Relations and Campaigns, for preparing him for his role. During his internship, he has experienced challenges like communication barriers with external companies but has learned to remain persistent and patient. One project he has particularly liked working on is forming partnerships with podcasts to enhance the company's outreach.
“I'm hoping this will give me experience and exposure in the field to see if this is a career that I want to pursue.”
Reflecting on his experience, Jack encourages students to create weekly schedules to balance school, life, and internships effectively. When asked for his advice for students exploring similar opportunities Jack shared, "Leverage your network to try and get yourself into a position where you can prove your worth. Work as hard as possible to show how valuable you can be to that company."
