Professor Julia Corbett Selected to Receive Inaugural Alta Sustainability Award

Julia CorbettProfessor Julia Corbett selected to receive the 2015 Alta Sustainability Leadership Award, for which she’ll receive $2500. Professor Corbett was nominated in the category of Integrating Sustainability Education.

This award recognizes Professor Corbett as someone who successfully integrates sustainability education, not only into the specific sustainability themed courses she teaches such as Climate Change Communication, Enviroinmental Communication and Introduction to Environmental Studies, but also into other courses such as Public Relations Campaigns, Introduction to Quantitative Research, Advanced Quantititate Research and Health Communication.

Furthermore, she was recognized for sharing her knowledge and experience of integrating sustainability education into curriculum through publication and collaboration with partners both locally and nationally. 

The new Alta Sustainability Leadership Awards are presented on the basis of excellence in fostering leadership and commitment to the health of our community and our planet through an understanding of, and actions to enhance, the stability, resilience and diversity of our intertwined natural, social, economic and cultural systems at the U. The three other awards will be given to:

  • Youcan Feng nominated by Stephen Burian in Civil and Environmental Engineering will receive the Campus as a Living Lab Award for his work on green roof sites.
  • Robert Kent nominated by Tamra Fraughton in Psychology will receive the Sustainability Community Partnership Award for his work on long-term behavior change for the Clean Air Challenge.
  • Barbara Brown nominated by Rob Mayer in Family and Consumer Studies will receive the Sustainability Research Award for her research in neighborhood revitalization, healthy communities, and public transit.

Please join us in congratulating the inaugural winners of the Alta Sustainability Leadership Awards. They will be honored at a ceremony on Friday, March 6th from 2 – 3:30 pm in the Hinckley Caucus Room (255 OSH).

Their awards will be presented by David Orr in conjunction with his keynote address. The Alta Sustainability Leadership Awards are co-hosted by the Environmental & Sustainability Studies program and the Global Change & Sustainability Center.
