International Writing Centers Association selects new editorial team for The Writing Center Journal

Romeo Garcia

April 13, 2021 – The International Writing Centers Association is pleased to announce the selection of new leadership for The Writing Center Journal that includes Romeo García, assistant professor of writing and rhetoric studies at the University of Utah. Launched in 1980, WCJ remains the primary research journal in the field of writing center studies.

Along with García, the new editorial team consists of two other award-winning members of the writing center community:

  • García is co-editor of “Rhetorics Elsewhere and Otherwise,” winner of the 2020 Conference on College Composition & Communication Outstanding Book Award and author of “Unmaking Gringo-Centers,” selected for the 2019 Best of the Journals in Rhetoric and Composition and for reprint in Landmark Essays, Routledge

  • Harry Denny is an associate professor of English and the director of the writing center at Purdue University. Denny’s numerous publications include “Out in the Center: Public Controversies, Private Struggles,” for which he and his co-editors earned the 2019 IWCA Book Award and “Of Ladybugs, Low Status, and Loving the Job: Writing Center Professionals Navigating Their Careers,” for which he and Anne Ellen Geller won IWCA Article of the Year in 2014.

  • Anna Sicari is an assistant professor of English and the director of the writing center at Oklahoma State University. Sicari previously served as an associate editor of WCJ, and her publications include “Out in the Center: Public Controversies, Private Struggles,” for which she and her co-editors earned the 2019 IWCA Book Award and “Centering the Conversation: Patriarchy, Academic Culture, and #Me Too” (2018).

In speaking of the strength of their application, the search committee observed, “They are all strong scholars who share a deep commitment to mentoring researchers and writers. We especially value the diversity they embody across their identities and through their scholarship. This is a capable team with a clear, meaningful vision.” The leadership of IWCA agrees and looks forward to watching that vision manifest in the pages of WCJ.

Please join the writing center community in welcoming Drs. Denny, García, and Sicari to The Writing Center Journal.
