College of Humanities Convocation

The College of Humanities Convocation ceremony will recognize Baccalaureate, Master's and Doctoral Degree Candidates for their degrees and honors earned. Diploma covers are presented at this time to each graduate. All graduates are required to wear the appropriate cap and gown during the ceremony.
Graduates should plan to arrive at the Jon M. Huntsman Center at 8:30 a.m. The procession begins promptly at 9:00 a.m.
All undergraduate candidates should go directly to their seats as designated below. Students will not march in a procession. Doctoral and Master candates will meet in the tunnel entrance and march in the procession. Please bring a pen or pencil to print your name on the name card as you want it read and pronounced. Both sides of the card must be completely filled out. The reverse side of the card is used by the photographer.
The ceremony is expected to last approximately 1 hour and 45 mins.
Baccalaureate Degree Candidates
Please go directly to your seats in the Huntsman Center as designated below and as directed by the ushers. Graduates should be in their seats no later than 8:30 a.m.
Candidates graduating from the Department of Communication will be seated in Sections B and C; enter by Portal 3.
Candidates graduating from the Departments of English, History, Languages & Literature, Linguistics, Philosophy, Writing & Rhetoric Studies, and from the Asian Studies, International Studies, Latin American Studies, Middle East Studies, Peace & Conflict Studies, Religious Studies Programs, and the Bachelor's of University Studies will be seated in Sections K and L; enter in Portal 11.
Doctoral and Master's Degree Candidates
Please line up in the tunnel entrance on the lowest (basketball floor) level of the Huntsman Center. Candidates for doctoral degrees will carry their hood over their right arm and will be hooded when the degree is awarded. Candidates for master's degrees will wear their hoods with their gowns.
Guest seating will be on a first come, first served basis. Most guests choose to sit in Sections D through J, on the west side of the Huntsman Center. Guests are not allowed to sit in sections designated for graduates. Candidates and guests are requested to remain seated until the entire convocation program is complete.
A commercial photographer will be present to photograph all candidates. You will be asked to fill out name cards for the photographer, but you are under no obligation to purchase pictures. Family and friends may take additional photographs as desired.
Cap and Gown Orders
Student graduates can pay for and pick up graduation regalia at the University's Bookstore. Go to the University Campus Bookstore for additional information.
Diplomas are mailed to student graduates within three months of graduation.

The University of Utah General Commencement is the campus-wide opening ceremony, kicking off many events across campus and serving as a collective celebration of the University community and the collective success/accomplishments of the graduating class. It will be held on Thursday, May 4, 2017 at 6:30pm in the Jon M. Huntsman Center. We recommend that you attend, as this year’s ceremony will feature some exciting changes and additions that should be memorable.
