Q: What drew you to this conference/presentation?
A: I really wanted to show off my research to as many people as possible and reach outside the Utah bubble, and this conference was the most wide reaching and diverse. I didn’t think I’d have a chance, but it was simple enough to apply, so I took the leap and got in!
Q: How well have the classes you’ve taken prepared you for this conference/presentation?
A: A mix of all my communication classes have really helped me in preparing for public speaking and presentation. Two that stand out to me are my courses in Intro to Public Speaking and the PR Cases and Campaigns capstone. Both include major presentation elements, and taking Public Speaking early on helped me get tips and self-analyze my behavior for best speaking practices and engagement.
Q: Do you have any advice for other students looking into similar opportunities?
A: Create really thoughtful, efficient abstracts early on in your research to guide your process, and it’ll help you apply to everything and cast a wide net before final project completion!
