Meet Lepa
Lepa Marinkovski, Director of Humanities Scholars and Assistant Professor (Lecturer) in English, is eager to help students discover and explore the humanities in depth.
“As a first-generation graduate, I’m grateful to sit with our scholars each week and to learn from their journeys, some similar. I value intellectual agility and artistry that moves beyond classroom walls, and I value all that it implies to be able to articulate stances in such varied ways. Our faculty mentors demonstrate agility and artistry and witnessing their expertise firsthand has been such an honor; I know our scholars couldn’t have presented their research with as much confidence without their guidance. As we consider disciplinary practice in the humanities, we remember that there’s more than one way to look at something, always, and there’s plenty of space for us all to share our perspectives. It seems so simple and practical, what we do: Study the humanities to feel less alone where we stand. There’s more to it, sure, but isn’t that pretty much our mutual care? To feel less alone? It is partly from sharing our stories and mutual cares that we grow beyond our roles as students, scholars, and colleagues into friends and kin. That’s beautiful. My share: Carl Sagan’s wisdom from Cosmos: “We make our world significant by the courage of our questions and the depth of our answers.” I’m so glad to be a part of the Humanities Scholars Program.”
By joining the Humanities Scholars program, students embrace the opportunity to explore, connect, and grow within the supportive community of the College of Humanities.
