College of Humanities Students and Staff Celebrated at U Career Impact Success Awards
College of Humanities students and staff were honored at the U Career Success 2025 Career Impact Awards. Each year, U Career Success gives awards for outstanding student internships, career mentors, university partners, and employers in the community.
University students from all disciplines are nominated for the UFirst Credit Union Internship of the Year. These nominees have completed an internship where they gained outstanding experience and completed projects or tasks that have supported their career development. Four Communication majors were honored for Internship of the Year.

Alison Galindo-Laguna is a senior studying Strategic Communication, who interned for Broadway Media helping with radio shows’ posts, social media and content gathering.

Marley Huggins is a senior studying both Strategic Communication and Film and Media Arts interned for the University of Utah Master’s of Business Creation Program where she worked on website audits/redesigns, social media strategy, content calendar creation, collaboration guideline, SEO, and the use of tools like Google Analytics.

Natalee Patterson, a senior in Strategic Communication completed an internship with Intermountain Food Equipment and was responsible for overseeing social media platforms, creating client email newsletters, conducting interviews, and producing promotional video content. Braxton Watts, also a senior studying Strategic Communication, was a data Management Intern at Polaris Logistics Group, where he supported the organization, accuracy, and analysis of logistics data to enhance operational reporting.
Students nominate U of U faculty or staff for the Career Mentor of the Year for their
exemplary guidance and support. Karen Marsh Schaeffer, College of Humanities Director
of Student Success and Engagement, was selected as a 2025 Career Mentor of the Year.
Karen helps graduate and undergraduate students connect with enrichment opportunities
throughout their education including research projects, internships, leadership prospects
and employ support resources like scholarships and fellowships, counseling, petitions,
and more. She also serves as an advisor to the College of Humanities student ambassador
program, student council, Humanities Scholars program, and the Humanities House living
and learning community.
